Sophia

🤩Hey HIPpies, today we’re excited to introduce you to Sophia!

@soof1808 is now 33 years old, and has struggled with lower limb and hip pain for her entire life.

Growing up she always rolled her ankles and had pain in her knees. And in primary school, she had to cut back on PE due to the pain.

🐣Sophia’s mum and stepdad would always walk behind her trying to correct her gait – saying that she walked like a little duck.

From the age of 8 years old Sophia began seeing different physiotherapists – but was only treated for her ankles because that’s where she kept getting injured (due to continuously rolling them).

Because she couldn’t really run as a child, she got into swimming and began to play water polo at a young age.

⏩ Fast forward to when Sophia was 28, she started getting into fitness bootcamps, which transitioned into obstacle course racing – like the Spartan Race – which she truly loved. But with the increased activity, the pain in her knees and hips increased significantly as well.

After going to 4 different Physios, one of them finally sent her to an orthopeadic surgeon to have a hip MRI – and she was diagnosed with a labral tear and some degenerative cysts.

Even with this new diagnosis, Sophia’s gut instinct told her to get a second opinion, and then a third.

She finally found herself in the care of a hands-on physio with whom she began training. After some time, this physio realized that despite all of their training, there was no improvement in Sophia’s hips.

📸At 30 years old, Sophia finally got an xray of her hips and was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and femoral anteversion.

She saw a DDH specialist who suggested a total hip replacement due to years of damage – and Sophia’s age.

At 32, she underwent a total hip replacement for her left hip, and is happy to report that it was the best decision she could have made.

🤰As of today, we are just one short year past her first hip replacement and Sophia is expecting her first baby!
