Brianna

🤩 Hello HIPpies, we’re excited to introduce you to Brianna!

👯‍♀️ We connected with Brianna a little while ago on Instagram and were inspired by her story and journey with Hip Dysplasia.

She did not experience any pain or symptoms of Hip Dysplasia until she was 25 years old.

🏃‍♀️ Brianna’s hip pain first started when she was training for a half marathon. The pain started very intermittently and at first she thought she had just strained her hip flexor.

As time went on, the pain began to worsen and became more prevalent, to the point where it started to bother her in her daily life, even while doing zero impact activities, such as driving.

🕰 2.5 years after her hip pain originally started, and as the pain progressively got worse, Brianna decided to go and see a doctor.

It took several visits to GP’s, physiotherapists, and finally a sports medicine doctor for her to finally receive a Hip Dysplasia diagnosis.

🩺 After her diagnosis, Brianna underwent a periacetabular osteotomy and hip scope on both hips, followed by a screw removal surgery on her right hip.

Her surgeries were successful and post-op she has been very active in her own rehabilitation which has included physiotherapy, at home exercises, and pilates.

🙌 Just a couple of months ago (6 months post op) Brianna was excited to share that she is able to walk with no support (crutches) and no limp! She continues to actively participate in physio and strengthening her muscles.

💬 Her advice to others who are working through hip surgery and recovery phases is to always arm yourself with as much information as possible so you can be your own advocate. The more that you know the better equipped you will be to help yourself! Don’t be afraid to be “that patient” and ask any questions that may come up along the way.

She also found it helpful to have a recovery buddy that she connected with through a Hip Dysplasia Facebook group. Having someone to connect with who was going through the same experience was instrumental in her recovery.
