Cianna
👋HIPpies, meet Cianna!
💚 Cianna is a proud #hipdysplasiawarrior and has been a huge advocate for the community – working hard to spread awareness and support others on the same journey.
Her passion began when she herself was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia at the age of 15, a little more than 2.5 years ago.
🩰 Cianna is a competitive dancer and lived a very active life until one day during dance practice she did a turn, heard a very loud pop, and fell to the ground in excruciating pain.
Before this, Cianna had no symptoms of Hip Dysplasia. And from that day on she could no longer sit, walk, dance, or even stand without pain in her hips.
🩺 After seeing 5 different orthopedic doctors she was diagnosed with bilateral Hip Dysplasia in January of 2020. Her treatments began within 6 months.
Cianna underwent two PAO’s (periacetabular osteotomies) and two screw removal surgeries at Boston Children’s Hospital within one year.
Her LPAO (left periacetabular osteotomy) was in June of 2020, followed by a RPAO (right hip) in November 2020. During the second surgery they also removed the screws from her left side. During her final surgery in June 2021 the last screws were removed.
💬 Cianna shared that although these surgeries were tough, they not only granted her the pain free life she dreamed of for so long, but the experience also shaped her into the person she is today.
