Leah

👼 My daughter Leah was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia at birth.

At 10 weeks old she was placed in a Pavlik harness to gently position her hips so they can align in the joint, and to keep her hip secure.

🩺 The doctors said that in some cases Hip Dysplasia can correct itself by treating it with the harness, but unfortunately, that was not the case for Leah.

When Leah was 9 months old the doctors discovered her condition had worsened. She struggled to crawl, walk, and maneuver the way that she should have been able to.

🥼 She had her first surgical procedure at only 14 months old at a hospital in New Jersey. She underwent a pelvic osteotomy and was placed in a Spica cast. She spent a total of 4 months in the Spica cast and went through a total of 3 surgical procedures during this time.

Unfortunately, this did not correct the problem. When Leah was 3 years old, she needed to have a pelvic osteotomy and femoral osteotomy with bone graft followed by another 6 weeks of being in a Spica cast.

💚 Her journey with Hip Dysplasia isn’t over yet but Leah is 5 years old now and she is strong, brave, and a strong little Hip Dysplasia warrior!
